DevDays 2020: Building the future of health and community care at WellSky
At WellSky, we build the technology that powers better health outcomes for people across the U.S. and globe. It’s our collective mission to realize care’s potential. Each year, we renew that commitment at DevDays — WellSky’s annual internal technology summit for our engineering and solutions management teams. DevDays prioritizes cutting-edge research and development — all while creating a space for our technology teams to create the future of healthcare and community care innovation.
This year’s DevDays 2020 events brought together teammates across WellSky’s software engineering, information technology (IT), information security, solutions management, data science, and analytics teams. By the numbers, over 600 teammates from six countries and 65 cities attended this year’s virtual events. During the first half of the event, teammates learned from industry thought leaders and WellSky’s senior leadership team. During the latter segment, attendees participated in a hackathon designed to inspire innovation through rapid collaboration.
“Every day, I’m honored to lead WellSky’s incredibly talented and creative technology teams. DevDays helps us increase collaboration and develop big solutions to address big challenges, which is especially important as we build health tech through a pandemic.” said Joel Dolisy, WellSky’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO). “This year’s DevDays event further demonstrates that our teams are fiercely committed to our clients’ long-term success. Together, we’re rapidly innovating to meet the fast-evolving needs of care providers across the continuum, both today and tomorrow.”
This year’s conference featured forward-thinking presentations about WellSky’s rapid growth trajectory and vision for the future, presented by WellSky CEO Bill Miller, COO Steve Morgan, and CTO Joel Dolisy. Our technology teams also got the exciting opportunity to learn from the event’s keynote speakers: Tom Laszewski, transformation strategist at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and tech author and head of consulting at Conflux, Matthew Skelton (both pictured below). WellSky teammates appreciated the opportunity to learn from leaders at WellSky and in the larger technology industry.
“I really enjoyed learning from the event’s keynote speakers, as well as listening to the hackathon presentations, which were entertaining and presented creative ideas,” said Heather Canedo, staff scrum master at WellSky. “It’s important for us to take a break from time to time, learn new things from new people, and collaborate with different teammates who can challenge us in new ways and teach us new things.”
This year’s hackathon event at DevDays sparked new ideas and collaboration across several WellSky teammates.
“It’s clear that WellSky is committed to driving a unified spirit of innovation across our organization,” said Brian Clark, senior engineering manager at WellSky. “Our annual hackathon event at DevDays is a powerful tradition at WellSky, and it creates an important foundation for our continued collaboration and growth. We’ve had several projects that started at hackathons that later became real-life solutions that add real value for WellSky clients and the people they care for.”
We’re glad we could host another inspiring DevDays event that further established WellSky’s strong engineering culture and engaged our talented, innovative engineering team. We’re already looking forward to next year’s 2021 DevDays events!
