Abby Cox joins WellSky as vice president of business development to advance human and social services capabilities
WellSky is proud to announce that Abby Cox has joined the company as vice president of business development for the company’s human and social services business. In this role, Cox will focus on enhancing WellSky’s partnerships with human and social service providers across the U.S. and developing new opportunities to scale solutions in new and existing community markets. She also will chair the company’s human and social services advisory board.
Cox has more than 15 years of experience in the healthcare industry with expertise in policy development, social services, long-term care, Medicare, and Medicaid. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Human Services, Division of Aging Services, where she managed administration of the Aging Services Division to ensure that the division’s activities were consistent with department policy and aided in the achievement of department-wide goals and objectives. In this role, she established a reputation for driving innovation and cultivating a strong aging and disability network across the state.
“The time is now to capitalize on the conversations happening between stakeholders to advance the work of social drivers of health and deliver more optimal outcomes,” said Cox. “I am excited to be able to expand the work that WellSky is already doing and am committed to furthering WellSky’s capabilities and reach in the aging space. With WellSky’s focus on continued innovation, new partnerships, and enhanced services, this is an exciting time to join the team.”
Cox started her career in advocacy with the Georgia Council on Aging, where she worked closely with state legislators, advocates, and community-based organizations concerning budgetary and legislative issues affecting older adults and individuals with disabilities.
She was appointed Director of the State Unit on Aging in 2016 by the Commissioner for the Department of Human Services. With responsibility for a budget of over $96 million and 375 staff statewide, Cox oversaw Adult Protective Services (APS), the Public Guardianship Office (PGO), and the Older Americans Act (OAA) programs and services.
“Having worked with state and federal policymakers and across state-level organizations, including Area Agencies on Aging and Centers for Independent Living, Abby will advance WellSky’s human services networks and solutions,” said Steve Greenberg, WellSky senior vice president and general manager of human and social services. “We are thrilled to welcome her to the leadership team. As a dedicated advocate for older adults, their families, and their caregivers, Abby is committed to building new innovations that will advance the goals federal partners are hoping to achieve as well as better serve end consumers.”
Cox earned a bachelor’s degree in third world studies from the University of the South and a master’s in social work and gerontology from the University of Georgia. She is active in her community and serves on several boards of not-for-profit organizations in the Atlanta area.
