How you can celebrate Giving Tuesday 2020
During a global pandemic, giving and gratitude take on new meaning and importance. While we’ve seen socioeconomic barriers to health worsen in many ways, people across the U.S. are also joining together to support their neighbors in need — whether they’re volunteering their time and talents or sharing financial gifts with community organizations or directly with people and families.
As a new season of giving begins, it’s a great time to reflect on the gifts we already have, particularly health and stability, amid so much uncertainty. Still, the pandemic continues to affect people in the most vulnerable communities, including seniors, and people continue to need support.
Giving Tuesday on Dec. 1 is an annual global day of giving, and we invite you to consider giving to the WellSky Foundation to support our mission of improving quality of life by partnering with community organizations to promote lasting wellness. Here are 3 ways you can celebrate through giving:
- Use your voice to help promote generosity in your local community.
Help support organizations in your community by sharing their posts on social media. Great organizations to uplift include local Meals on Wheels programs, local food banks in your community, homelessness outreach organizations, and so many more. Through social media and our own personal networks, we all have the ability to help community-based organizations amplify their messages. - Volunteer your time at a local organization serving your community by committing to volunteering during the holiday season or throughout the year, on a regular basis.
Often, community organizations have volunteer posts open, awaiting community members who can share their time and talents to help their neighbors. Proactively take the time to learn about which organizations in your community could use your volunteer time — be it your local food bank or shelter for people experiencing homelessness. - Donate to the WellSky Foundation in support of its ongoing mission to address the social determinants of health (SDoH) and improve quality of live for people in vulnerable populations.
Created by WellSky in 2019, the WellSky Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to improving quality of life for vulnerable populations by removing social barriers to health, recovery, and lasting wellness. Since it was established, the WellSky Foundation has contributed more than $265,000 to a range of organizations addressing four key SDoH: food insecurity, housing, isolation, and transportation.
We can all make a difference within our communities, even as individuals. Everyone has a role in improving our communities in service of our neighbors, and working together, we can realize a better, healthier world for more people.
