Today, we’re highlighting Celeena Hoffmann, RN, HCS-D, COS-C, a medical coder for Fazzi Associates, a WellSky company, in this insightful Q&A:
What motivated you to become a nurse?
When my oldest daughter was 2, she was diagnosed with a serious medical condition. I had the unique experience of seeing a registered nurse (RN) make a difference for my family in the middle of a very difficult situation. My daughter’s care experience sparked my desire to become a nurse. I knew I wanted to be a nurse who made a positive impact on hurting families.
Tell us more about your background in nursing.
Before working at WellSky, I worked at a skilled nursing facility (SNF). I also spent three years as an MDS assistant, a care plan assistant, and I was also a staff development coordinator.
Can you share a particular moment or story from your nursing career when you knew you’d chosen the right profession?
Interacting with families at the SNF was one of the most rewarding parts of my management career. I was able to sit down with families and address their unique needs and concerns. Each family and patient I worked with was unique, and each meeting was an opportunity to be the RN who made the positive impact for these families in sometimes difficult situations.
Why do you think nursing is such an important profession?
Nursing is a dynamic profession that reaches across many fields. Nurses are educators, care coordinators, and clinicians. Every day, caring nurses make a positive impact on their patients’ families and in their communities.
How does your clinical background contribute to WellSky’s vision of realizing care’s potential?
My background in the SNF setting gave me a head start in understanding the impact of accurate and compliant reporting to CMS. I’m excited to continue contributing to WellSky’s vision of empowering even better care.
